Choose a few stops around your reservation and turnaround time. Kīpahulu is beyond Hāna, not a quick detour. Check road and park notices, yield to local traffic, use legal parking and never enter private land for a waterfall photograph.

Garden of Eden Arboretum

Explore planted paths and designated viewpoints inside this privately operated arboretum. A garden visit gives you a clear place to park and walk instead of stopping at an unsafe roadside pullout.

2 · Choose your stops
Kaumahina State Wayside

Use the forested wayside for a picnic and northeast-coast views. A proper rest stop is worth leaving space for on a winding drive.

3 · Choose your stops
Keʻanae Arboretum

A designated walk introduces tropical trees beside historic cultivated terraces. Look for plant labels and treat the surrounding landscape as a living place, not an off-trail playground.

Puaʻa Kaʻa State Wayside

Pause in a rainforest wayside with picnic space and waterfall scenery. Keep this a rest-and-view stop rather than planning a swim around weather-sensitive streams.

Kahanu Garden
Learn about plants, Hawaiian cultural landscapes and the significance of Piʻilanihale through the garden's visitor program. A guided visit adds context that a quick photograph cannot provide.

Waiʻānapanapa State Park

Choose the black-sand coastline and marked park paths as an anchor for your East Maui plan. Let the reserved time slot determine the rest of the drive, not the other way round.

7 · Choose your stops
Hāna Bay Beach Park
Leave room to spend time in Hāna rather than only driving through it. This named bay park is a place to pause on shore and respect the community's daily use of the waterfront.

8 · Choose your stops
Hāmoa Beach

The Hāneʻoʻo Road beach is an option beyond Hāna town. Treat it as a shore visit unless current conditions and your abilities clearly support entering the ocean.

9 · Choose your stops
Kōkī Beach

Consider Kōkī as a coastal viewing stop on Hāneʻoʻo Road. You can enjoy an East Maui beach without getting in the water or scrambling onto exposed rocks.

Kīpahulu Visitor Center & trails
Plan a dedicated park visit for the Pīpīwai or Kūloa Point trails, both reached from the Kīpahulu area. They share this itinerary stop so selecting both walks does not create two fictitious driving destinations.
